This week 3M have been learning about Onomatopoeia using it in poetry. Onomatopoeia is a word that mimics the sound of the object or action it refers to. When you pronounce a word, it will mimic its sound.
Below are a selection of poems created by the students.

Lovely Breakfast
Tick, tock
The microswave sissle
The waffles flip,flop
The pancakes ting the toaster
Bubble, the warm milk and
flop the toast.
Buzz, buzz, buzzzzzzz!
The bee bit me!
Boo, boo, boooooo!
I was crying!
Splash splash!
Goes my tears!
Gurgle, gurgle!
Goes my mouth!
Whack, whack!
That’s me having a tantrum!
Crackle, crackle
The BBQ is running
Rumble, rumble
I am getting very hungry
Broom, broom
My mum is going to get some sausages
Slop, slop
I finally get my food
Yum, yum
I finely get to eat my food!!!!
Ow, Ow!
I have a tummy ache and it’s sore!!!
Jingle, jingle
I put on the bells
Flick, flick
I put on the lights
Swish, swish
I put on the baubles
ruffle, ruffle
I put on the decorations
glow, glow
I put on the star.
This is my onomatopoeia poem (JM):
Boom, boom!
Goes my cupboard
Boom, boom!
Again
Buzz, buzz
Goes a fly!
Buzz buzz
It goes inside my cupboard
Squash!
something ugly comes out
It’s dark, it’s scary
its …its…my MUM
“Get up you lazy pig its time for school!”
The crackling sound of the fire pleases me and the rest of the family. The crunching of the toast is a very annoying sound.
Splash! My cousin just jumped in the pool.Ha-ha! He just got me wet. Ticktock. The time on the clock.
My Onomatapoeia poem is called The Storm, it is about a child lying in bed waiting for a storm to pass then eventually falling asleep.
THE STORM
I hear the thunder go boom outside,
I hear the rain splashing on the road,
I hear the wind rattle the windows,
I hear the crackle of the fire downstairs,
I hear the ticking of the clock on my wall,
I hear tapping as the rain hits my window,
I hear a thunk as my mum falls out of bed,
I hear the snap of a street lamp breaking,
I hear nothing as I fall asleep,
I hear the birds tweeting in the morning sun.
Swoosh, swoosh!
Jam’s as in real life people are running everywhere
Whack, whack!
Phantoms are falling in the game
Pow, pow!
They are hitting the ground
Smash, smash!
People are getting eliminated
Squish, squish!
I got eliminated
Boo, boo!
I cry on my computer.
Rustle, Rustle
I kick off the covers
Thump, Thump!
I stumble to my wardrobe to get my clothes
Gulp,Gulp, Crackle,Crackle!
I slurp down my milk and gobble down my toast
Swish, Swish
I brush my teeth
Slam, Bonk!
I close the door
Vroom, Vroom!
The car starts
Squeak, Squeak!
Goes the marker on the board
HMML
The Worst Cold Ever!!!
Sniff, Sniff!
I get my 1000th tissue
Glurp, Umph!
Yellow liquid flows out of my mouth
Splash, Wolap!
Tears spill out of my eyes
Vroom! I hear a car speeding with a police on his back, “Weoowweoowweoow.” “Boom!” goes the engine and the criminal crashes. Out comes speedy Gonzales and the police shakes his leg and the police starts crying “Boohoo!” The drip of his tears on the gravel.
Pop, pop
Goes the pop corn!
Crunch crunch!
That’s us eating it!
Tic-toc, tic-toc!
That’s the clock!
Sizzle, sizzle!
Another batch!
Waffle, waffle!
Us eating it all!
Boo,boo, boo!
There’s no more!
Clash, clatter, clink go the pots and pans
Crack, crack, crack goes the egg
Slop, slop, slop goes the yolk.
Poof, Poof, poof goes the flour
Shake, shake, shake goes the sugar
Slippy, slippy, slip goes the mixture in the bowl
Plop, plop, plop when I’m putting the mix in the tray
Creak, creak, creak goes the oven door
Tick, tick, tick the cakes ready.
Mmmmmmmm! That was a yummy cake.
